Technical Writer II
Summary
Technical Writer II designs, writes, and publishes product user documentation and training materials from concept to final product for a variety of customers. Works with business analysts, account managers, quality assurance professionals, software engineers, clients, and others to understand and document usage concepts. Technical Writer II is also responsible for production and distribution of product release notes and other supporting materials.
Responsibilities
- Work with project managers in scheduling documentation tasks in project plans, defining audience, and establishing project schedules, and client expectations.
- Establish relationship with software development team for purposes of delivering documentation as an integral part of the product.
- Meet precise project deadlines.
- Research, develop, write/edit, format, and maintain user documentation for products, including the following:
- Complete system documentation of every component of the base system
- Release notes for every base product release, including new features and system tuning enhancements
- On request, client-specific user documentation
- On request, client-specific training and training documentation
- Test all deliverables prior to client release for accuracy and readability.
- Work with technical staff to format and publish technical documentation.
- Announce and distribute documentation to Healthation staff and clients.
- On request, review documentation prepared by other department members to ensure editorial and/or technical quality.
- Manage and track documentation requests via SalesForce.com or JIRA tracking systems.
- Keep Manager informed of all project requests and special client documentation or training requests.
- Develop appropriate metrics to report on client application interfaces and overall use of the AcceleHealth system.
- Attend client meetings when necessary.
- Other duties as determined based on business needs.
Skills
- Excellent oral and written communication.
- Ability to manage multiple projects.
- Knowledge of desktop publishing and technical communication process.
- Expert knowledge of following software or programs:
- MS Office suite [Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.]
- MS Project, SalesForce.com, or JIRA
- MS Visio
- Paint Shop Pro or Adobe Creative Suite
- Screen capture software [SnagIt, or equivalent]
- Revision control software such as CVS or VSS
- Other online help systems
Education/Training
Bachelor's degree in technical communication, training, computer science, or related field or at least 4-6 years of equivalent experience in computer technologies with an emphasis in web-based business applications, health insurance, and/or Rx.
Experience
4-6 years experience in computer technologies with an emphasis in web-based business applications, preferably insurance, health care claims, and/or Rx claims processing systems.
